I recently acquired a Xilinx Spartan-3A development Evaluation Board for a mere US $39.00. Yes believe it. It is reasonably feature rich and comes with a MicroBlaze demo application installed. I have just started work with it and plan to release some projects in the near future. I believe it is excellent for a beginner. It also has an online forum dedicated to it. The start-up tutorial (entitled “ISE FPGA Design Introduction”) that can be downloaded from the board web page is also excellent.
